Mohawk Fashion Victim, Ink & sticker, 8x5"

Mohawk Fashion Victim, Ink & sticker, 8x5"

You can imagine my glee when this gentleman in full Mohawk sat down across from me on BART. Entranced by his cell phone, he never noticed me sketching and held perfectly still. It must have taken him a long time to get his hair to stand up so perfectly–and why? Especially first thing in the morning? I awarded him a sticker (on his page) from National Geographic.

UPDATE: Larry Hatfield sent me this link to a great Mohawk at a crazy website: People of Walmart where photos of actual shoppers and products at Walmart make you laugh, cringe and/or swear never to go to a Walmart.

And above, bonus BART rider sketches, people reading actual books, not a cellphone/Kindle, etc.  And below some subway feet sketches.

I was amused by the variety of guys shoes, from super point to square toes to waffle soles.

  1. I think your pen drawings are great. The Mohawk guy drawing is really good. I need to get braver about sketching in public!

  5. I like your mohawk man – he looks so content with his style! But the last picture, the feet, is brilliant. I love the composition – all the angles of the legs and feet. So cool.

  7. You’re probably not going to believe me, but I think this is me. I realize that I’ve just been called a fashion victim but I still get a lot of compliments on my mowhawk and laughs too by the way. That’s probably the longest it’s ever been. And no, I didnt realize I was being sketched. I was concentrating on angry birds before a long day at work in Berkeley.

    • Wow! You made my day! I do believe you and hope it is true since I’ve always wondered if someone would find one of my sketches, see themselves and respond. How did you happen to come across it? I loved how your hair was so nice and even all the way around. You and Brian Brushwood have the most interesting hair I’ve seen. I’m so lazy with mine I can’t imagine spending the time to make it all stick up so nice.

I apologize for “fashion victim” since your hair is really more like personal art and inspires both praise and laughs–what could be better than that! I had probably been playing Angry Birds myself before you got on and then I had to put down the iphone and pick up the pen! Jana
