I liked the earnest, patient look on her face and her Modigliani neck. I just wish she’d stayed aboard a little longer so I could finish her.

Now this guy was great. He went right to sleep, sitting facing me, our knees nearly touching, and mostly stayed asleep until we both got off at the same stop. Once he startled awake and caught me staring at him but dozed right back off. The guy sitting next to me watched me draw and gave me a big grin as I was getting off, acknowledging our secret from my model.

  2. Hey! I used to date a chap with a very long, brick-shaped head! (Not much inside the head, unfortunately!)
Yesterday, I felt brave enough to post one of my scribbles.

  3. Aren’t sleepers the very best subjects? But it does get a little weird when they opening their eyes and you’re staring directly into them!!!!

  4. You make these look so easy! Makes me want to go out and sketch some folks, however, when I actually start to do it, I just get frustrated with the outcome. Sigh…maybe one of these days.

  5. Oh, naughty – staring at the man in the seat across from you! Do the subjects make comments if they see the drawing? We try to be invisible but sometimes people want to have a peek at the pic, etc. Being on the train from Geelong to Melbourne (one hour) is good for drawing people too but I usually have a sleep! I only go up to the city about once every two months anyway and on the local buses, well I always know somebody to have a chat with.

  6. You’re doing very well – and using your BART journeys to great effect. I’ve been missing London and its underground network this week as I don’t have anything similar now where I can just sit and draw commuters …

  7. Awesome! Your painting for the four seasons also corresponds with the four suits of the Tarot! Swords, Rods, Pentacles and Cups! I can definately appreciate this. šŸ™‚ Have you ever thought of illustrating a tarot deck? It would be a lot of work, but totally worth it.

  9. these always look like you had such fun doing them! wonderful quick portraits, I love the sleeping guy (isn’t it the best when your models co-operate like that!?) and the Modigliani girl.
