Cafe Rouge at Sunset, Ink & watercolor, 5x7"

We were all a little late for our Tuesday night sketching. We met by Peet’s Coffee and then wandered off to sketch what caught our interests. It was cold out and the sun was setting but Cafe Rouge looked warm and inviting with their red chairs and umbrellas.

  1. That’s so cool. We had dinner there just last Saturday with my siblings and their spouses. I love your sketch. I also now understand your love for Maira Kalman, as I just read a book by her. I like the way she thinks, not to mention paints.

    Miss you, Lea

    • Hi Lea, Good to hear from you. How is their food? Which book of Maira Kalman’s did you read? Did you happen to see her show at the Jewish Museum when it was here last year? It was so fantastic! We should plan another get together of the group and catch up. I’ve seen Judith recently but miss you! Jana

  2. fantastic! I love this. Janas. I just want to thank you for being an inspiration to me. I too, am an artist with a blog and had kind of lost me enthusiasm for daily painting till I came across your site. I love the spontaneity of your sketches. and, I too use ink and watercolor. I came across boxes of watercolor card stock that I had bought many years ago and because of your inspiration… I’m back at it again. I’ve always thought of myself as inspiration to others. It was really a gift for you to be inspiration to me. Thank you! colleen

    • Thanks so much Colleen! How exciting to hear that you’ve returned to your painting and sketching. I get so much inspiration from other people that it is absolutely wonderful to hear that I’ve inspired somebody too. Thanks so much for taking the time to tell me. (Send me your blog link so I can see what you’re up to!). Jana
