Back in January I got a new iMac to replace my aging PC. I hadn’t left my job yet so still needed my PC monitor and my work laptop to complete my last project. That meant I had 3 computers, a 27″ monitor and the iMac on my desk.

What a mess! Along with 3 computers I also had two keyboards, a trackball, a track pad, an old Wacom tablet, telephone and router, notebook, glasses, pencil holder and a huge stack of files and file folders I was working on.

It felt so good to finish the work, put away the work laptop, give the PC to my son, and clear my desk. I mostly love the iMac and especially appreciate how few wires there are now.
I’m also happy to finally post these last sketches from my last journal so that I can start posting some fun stuff in my current giant Moleskine.

That looks so much nicer Jana – and good to see you’ve joined the clan! 🙂

Yes, and you led the way. I followed your journey and little by little got sucked into the Apple universe with other devices until resistance was futile: it just made sense to complete the picture with the iMac. She’s a beauty alright. There are definitely some things I miss from Windows 7 but I’m going to go back to my “Mountain Lion Missing Manual” book to see if I can find solutions to some of the issues I have with OSX compared to Win 7. I bet it’s just missing knowledge that’s making me less efficient than I used to be on the PC. Jana

No matter how few computers I have, my desk will always look like the first drawing!

Funny! After I posted the pictures (that I sketched a while ago), I took a look at my desk and saw that it was looking more like the before picture with all the junk that had migrated onto it. I got inspired and cleaned it up again but now there’s a big pile of papers that need sorting and actions on top of my printer (but out of my direct line of sight). Jana

Ah yes, we ADD artists do live in clutter. I really hate it! After 60 years you would think I could get a grip on all that paper that piles up, but I think I’m gradually getting worse! Catherine

Haha. I had a big pile forming on my desk again but I solved the problem: I moved it to elsewhere and now my desk looks nice again. Jana

I bet it felt wonderful to get your computer table all cleaned up. Great sketches.
I haven’t been able to make the move to a MAC yet. Still a PC gal.

Hi Carol, If I hadn’t gotten sucked into the Apple universe by the iphone, ipad and then an apple tv for streaming videos and podcasts etc., and then an apple router, I would have stayed with the PC. To be honest, I don’t really see any huge advantages of the Mac over the PC except for how nice and simplified my desk is without all the wires and bulky computer. And it was a pain having to buy all new programs for the new platform and learn them and the computer. There are other annoyances with the Mac, but they may be user problems — things I haven’t learned how to do better yet. I have a Missing Manual book and should read it again now that I’ve spent more time with it to find out how to solve those puzzles. Jana
