I did this spoon tonight in my WC Moleskine but I’m not crazy about it. I wanted to vege out and go to bed early, but convinced myself to just quickly paint one little serving spoon in order to have something to post today. But I was too tired and so is the picture I produced. It’s overworked, which is just how I feel too tonight, at the end of my work week.
I did a drawing this morning on the subway but felt it was too sketchy and experimental to post. I’m going to continue with my commitment to draw or paint daily, but I think I’m going to give myself one day a week to not post when I’m too tired or don’t think what I’ve done that day is ready for primetime.

I’ve given up on spoons, Jana! My feeble attemps turned out to be grey mud … this is vibrant and lively and even the detailing on the handle is great!!! Congratulations for sketching even though tired … sometimes, those sketches work pretty well. I hope you get some rest and have a chance to relax and sketch to you hearts content this weekend!

I think it is fabulous! Sassy and bright and in your face, in a polite way, of course ;D. Hope your weekend is refreshing, Jana..

What a smart thing to do: to give youself a day of rest. And if it’s a few days of rest, it will just whet the appetites of all of us for your next lovely picture.
The BART drawings sound interesting. I hope we get to see them when you’re satisfied with them.

Don’t forget, you’re the one making up the “rules,” so make sure they’re fun, energizing, and doable — not a burden!

Jana,
I am with ya, it is such a funny balance there. If I committ to draw every day then some days I am going to have to post stuff that I really don’t want to put up or hurry up and finish something that really needs more time. But it is so easy for me to drift from the habit, such as when I was on vacation. One of the illo bloggers mad the comment way back, when you draw every day you get less particular about how perfect the work is, because there is always tomorrows drawing. I think this is true also and a very freeing concept.
So, there ya have it, the delima of the daily drawing! I do like your tired little spoon though. It is fun in it’s funky tired way.
