I spotted these roses in my garden this morning, still blooming, even with morning frost and rain. I’ve enjoyed having them in the house and tonight decided to make a quick painting of them for posting.
I’ve been sleepy and uninspired all day today. First I lost yesterday to a migraine, then today all sorts of things got in the way of painting. I had to take Busby to the vet for a sudden bladder problem. When I got home I realized that I couldn’t put off vacuuming any longer so spent a couple hours cleaning house. Then I didn’t get into the studio until after 3:00 because I fell asleep in my recliner after eating lunch. I guess I’m still recovering from yesterday’s major migraine.
Once I found my way to the studio I worked on an oil painting for a few hours and I think I finished it but will wait to look at it with fresh eyes tomorrow to see if more is needed.
Hopefully tomorrow my inspiration, energy and muse will return.

a lovely sketch, I’d say your muse is right there beside you! glad the migraine is gone, I get them too and know how wiped out you feel the next day, so take it easy on yourself and take it slow, I’m surprised you did this at all!

Ah, Jana! I saw this this morning and thought “My sis is reading my mind — I too sketched a flower after all that holiday focus!” So when I opened your blog and read your note — I thought, I sure hope you’re feeling better — but I really love the flowers!!!! To me, they’re fresh and flowing and loose and I LOVE that …! I sure hope you’re feeling better today!

I hope things are going better today, and that life’s obstacles are not keeping you from finding inspiration. This one is so alive! Both the strokes and the composition are strong and gorgeous.

I think you muse was there but you were too tired to see her. I love the strong lines and the surprising blue.

I think they reflect your state expectation about what is going to happen next… Today life is controlling you, you are not controlling what you do… it is just another mood, another type of expression which is completely serene and not overworked. You are waiting for the “usual expression style” to take over.
I usually philosophy too much. Don’t take me seriously. They are beautiful!

Jana, I’m so sorry you’ve been having horrible headaches. I’ve only ever had them when I was pregnant, so I can’t imagine having to live with them the way you do. I think it’s amazing and laudable that you went into the studio and painted, in spite of your headaches. And then you produced this lovely sketch, too! You’re very inspiring, but I hope you’re taking good care of yourself, too.

Lovely sketch. I think the left flower though should have had a different color.

Ah – I finally got access to your blog! I have to agree with everyone – this is very beautiful. It’s hard to imagine that you weren’t feeling well when you painted it. I like the use of the white paper in the composition. It’s lovely.

I really like this rose rendering. Colors are great. I just posted a rose this morning on my blog. I love my rose trees and the flowers they produce and they are fun to paint.
