It rained last night and this morning for the first time since winter. Our staff meeting ended at 4:00 and I was back to my neighborhood by 5:00 which was a treat, since I usually don’t get home from work until 7:00 and it’s almost dark by then. The bright sky was full of dramatic clouds, so instead of heading directly home I drove to the top of Albany Hill on Solano Ave. I painted these two quickies there, standing in the street behind my parked Toyota RAV4, using the painting gear I keep in the car.

I noticed there was a full moon when the sun went down. Maybe that’s what all the craziness was about downtown yesterday when I said I wish there was an iPod for the eyes so you could see beautiful things instead of ugly urban grit. Tami cleverly quipped that an “eye-pod” would be great. And then today I read this in David Pogue’s New York Times technology column:
“Apple’s rep gave a little talk that focused on iPod accessories. One of them looked like a pair of skinny wraparound sunglasses that displays your video iPod’s TV shows and movies on a virtual big screen that floats in the center of your vision. What’s cool is that you can still see–by looking around the TV set on either side. Hard to explain, but really neat.”

Jana — about the Apple innovation… next time you have an idea, give Steve Jobs a call!!! It’s insane!!! And goodness, your skies are indeed dramatic. They take on an abstract quality and the tones are beautiful. So you keep a set in the car? I love the idea of having the urge to draw/paint something and pulling over to do it. That’s life, right there. 🙂

I love these skies, they are so difficult for me too. I also understand the delight of a rain from being in Arizona-cause for celebration and painting!

Hummm, the eye-pod thing is interesting, especially in light of your comment yesterday. I like your broadcast for it better though.
Love these clouds! I have seen some beautiful “squall light” the last couple of days. Tonight is supposed to be the Harvest Moon, I haven’t looked at it yet, but did look last night when I realized how bright the patio was.

Weren’t the clouds gorgeous yesterday evening?! I tried to take some photographs, but just couldn’t get the exposure to come out right. You did a much better job capturing it in watercolor.

they tell me it rained, but i must have blinked and missed it. the valley grass felt springier, but it might have been the sprinklers.
these are nice, i like the colours, the watercolours are really made for the sky aren’t they! the sky is usually the most amazing watercolour board we have in the world. though in some places it’s waterier than others (usually in britain, on august bank holidays; we don’t get those here in california, hence less rain)
now i live in usually cloudless CA valley i actually envy those (such as in the bay) with such inspirational clouds
