I need to design a postcard announcement for the show I’ll be having the month of March in the newly rennovated Art Deco Cerrito Theatre‘s cafe called the It Club and their meeting room on the other side of the lobby. I couldn’t decide which of these images to put on the postcard and decided to ask for your help. If you have an opinion please use Comments (above) to vote for the image you think would look good on the postcard.
The opening will be on Friday, March 2 from 6:30 – 9:30 in case you’re in the area and want to come. I’ll post an invitation a couple weeks before but since people have asked I thought I’d include it now. Here’s the images:
Grandma’s Orange Juice Squeezer
Pink Rose
Bearded Iris
Birthday Tulips
Tomato in Green Bowl
Watermelon (not for sale, limited edition print available)
Rose in a Bottle (Just sold, but limited edition print available)
Thanks for your help!

I can almost sense a certain style developing while looking at your artwork. Very nice!
I am particularly fond of the iris painting, since my grandmother use to hybridize them and it brings about some fond memories of her.
Again, … beautiful work!

Jana, the oranges just take my breath away they are so gorgeous! The watermelon too but I think that orange being such an upbeat and attractive colour will really grab the attention. All of these are absolutely beautiful!

I can’t not comment on the tomatoes and that glass, it’s stunning!

It’s a seven way tie for me, but maybe the Juice Squeezer for a postcard announcement if the format gets a larger representation of the painting; otherwise I’m torn between Bearded Iris and Rose in a Bottle. How wonderful it would be to get any of these in the mail and then see the real things. It’s a pleasure to discover your site and watercolors.

Jana,
All of them are drop-dead gorgeous – but the oranges are my vote. Your “reflections” are spectacular so my second place vote is for the rose in the glass bottle.

Gosh I love them all! I am going to go for the “Grandma’s Orange Juice Squeezer” though followed by a close second with “Watermelon”. In the end it will depend on a balance between the image and the text if type is used.

Jana like most of the comments here I say the oranges because they show your abilities to the max.

WOW –what a dilemma — I LOVE THEM ALL — for me — while I agree the oranges just ZING with your multi-talents — that pink rose just GLOWS — in February– at least here in the east — it’s so grey – that the pink bright flower would draw me in — but I’m not familiar with February in CA … but truly jana, you can’t go wrong with any of them!

because the color is a favorite, because of the glass and those exquisite shadows, because I can’t believe that knife, the oranges hands down for me

The oranges scream to get my attention – especially this winter time of year. All entries are just glorious but Orange juicer is my vote.

Orange juicer or the pink rose are my choices. Any of your paintings would certainly work though.

These are all stunning. I think the tomato will be great to catch the eye. Though i love the oranges — they would stop anyone in their tracks. If i got that image in the mail coming home from work one night, i would sit down and stare at the picture without thinking of taking off my coat or putting down my purse.

Definitely the oranges, followed by the tomatoes in green bowl and watermelon.

They are all beautiful, but I really like the oranges. It’s just stunning … even on line, it grabs your attention. Beautiful colors, amazing detail and the textures … metal, wood, glass and the orange peel … just delicious. I definitely vote for the oranges.

love them all. I would use several of them (3) and have 3 different cards. I love the second flower,; it’s gorgeous, but them I like the orange juice (so realistic ) and the watermelons, etc…
My advice: Go for several images on same card…

That’s hard. They’re all so good.
I’d have to go w/ the oranges, too.
Congrats again.

Jana, they are all stunning! Congratulations! If I had to choose, the Bearded Iris would get my vote but then I’m so fond of irises. There’s something mysterious and gentle about them.
On a postcard the oranges (which are my second choice) would probably work better. They are so juicy, so promising, fresh and attractive that they’d surely draw people to the gallery.
I can smell the sweet fragrance of the roses and feel the summer heat just by looking at your watermelons and tomato. Thank you for sharing them with us.

Of course, if you are going to have text on the front of the card along with the design, then…
Watermelon watermelon watermelon!
😀 They are ALL spectacular!

Jana,
I think that your fruits are the strongest compositions. The color, the form, and the use of color, as well as the integrity of the medium that you are using makes the fruits both appealing artistically, but also fascinating to fellow artists. Use one of the fruits (my favorite is the orange).

The oranges are the best – whether they work best in graphic terms for the show is maybe another question. Are you going to have a clean image or overprint the image?

Oranges for sure!

love them all! they’re gorgeous. for the postcard for me it would be the watermelons, tomatoes and the oranges in that order as i was thinking that white space would bring out your watercolors more and the first two have that.

To answer Katherine’s question: You asked whether I’d be putting words about the show or just the image on the invitation postcard for the opening. I didn’t know the answer for sure until I followed the link on your blog to the Art Advice website, read the information about preparing for a show and voila! I have the answer…yes, there will be text. But I think I’ll put the text in the top and bottom margins rather across the image. That website is great!

May I perhaps dissent from the majority – I know nothing about doing gallery shows but I think I might not put my best image on the invitation but leave it for the WOW surprise when people arrive – of course maybe you have even more stunning images up your sleeve?
