Jupiter Pub: Tuesday Night Sketching

Jupiter Pub Sketch #2 with little boy, ink & watercolor

Last week we met up at Jupiter Beer Pub for sketching, pizza and beer on their outdoor patio. It turns out to have been the last warm night of the year and the place was packed. It was quite dark where we were sitting at the beginning of the evening, the last  table way at the back of the courtyard (at top of sketch above) so my Pitt Artist’s Brush Pen with a thicker line made it easier to see what I was drawing (barely) than my fountain pen and I added the watercolor at home.

As it got later and the crowd thinned out we were able to move to the main area of the patio where I sat in a wonderful Adirondack chair and sketched the courtyard where we’d started the evening (sketch #1 at top).

Jana, that Pen is magic in your hands. How great to find something that you can see to draw in the dark. I love that little boy.

Thanks Annie! I was a bit distressed when I saw that my usual fountain pen was out of ink and I had to work with something different, but it turned out to be just the right thing. Jana

I’m sorry to hear you haven’t been having sketching fun of late. My group definitely keeps me sketching, especially lately when I’m so fixated on oil painting. All it takes is one committed sketching buddy. That’s what we started with and now we have 6, with a core group of 3-4 most weeks. I met the first sketch buddy in my plein air painting group because we’d both stayed after to sketch. Another had inquired about taking classes with me but couldn’t because she’s allergic to cats. If you wanted to start a group you could advertise on your local Craigslist or if you don’t mind paying a bit, MeetUp.com is a good way to start new groups of like-minded people or Sketchcrawl.com where you could start your own sketchcrawl in Madison for the next International Sketchcrawl (except January in Madison probably wouldn’t be too conducive to wandering the streets!) Thanks Carol, It looked a lot better after I added the watercolor. It was so scribbly before I did that. I guess the wc unified it and then I was happy with the sketch. Jana
