Ink and watercolor, 9×6 (larger)
This was my view while I was getting my hair cut on Friday. The beautiful peonies were an apology gift to my hairdresser from one of her clients. I don’t know what the client had done wrong but I thought the combination of the scissors, hairbrush and flowers made an interesting still life.
I’m going to be in a painting workshop all week with Camille Przewodek in Petaluma and may not have a chance to post until I return. It should be an exciting and intense week of painting. It’s also a vacation from work (whoopee) and I intend to enjoy every moment!

Jana, this is simply lovely. I imagine those peonies smelled delightful. Mine, the plain pink sort, are just leafing out, and seem slow this year, but we’ll see. As much as I like your more involved painting, your sketches appeal to me too.

Well you really do make beautiful art everywhere you go, don’t you? I seem to have to be in the right mood, and have all the right materials, and then — if I don’t freeze up in fear of getting it wrong — sometimes I get lucky.
Very nicely done. Gorgeous, in fact. Thank you so much for sharing your work. It’s truly inspiring.

Oh, I thought you got out your jar of water, paints and did it on the spot and the hairdresser got mixed up and painted your hair or mixed up gels etc. and had a real good time! Very nice picture. You get the shapes etc. without fiddling detail.

Such a great drawing! Oh Jana, you know I got to see the original painting of Luncheon of the Boating Party at the Phillips gallery in D.C. a couple weeks ago. What an amazing experience.
